AARP Tax-Aide Foundation:

AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free,
volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service
available to taxpayers with low– and middle income,
with special attention to those age 60 and older.  With
over 32,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, trained in
cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS),
now help over 2 million taxpayers file federal, state
    and local tax returns.

Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and certified to
assist filing tax forms and basic schedules, including
1040, 1040A and 1040EZ.  Our volunteers offer face-
to-face tax assistance operating in senior centers,
libraries, community centers and other convenient
locations.  We also visit hospitals, assistive living
facilities, nursing homes and, if possible, make
personal visits to those who are unable to leave their
    homes.

Started in 1968 when four volunteers offered to help
older taxpayers complete their tax returns, Tax-Aide
is one of the early efforts of AARP to use volunteers
to ensure that important services are available to
older people.  Since 1980, the program has operated
under a cooperative agreement with the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) as part of its Tax Counseling
for the Elderly (TCE) program.  In 1996, AARP
transferred the federal funds for and the
administration of the AARP Tax-Aide program to the
    AARP Foundation

Providing Free Tax Assistance to Senior Citizens in Utah
    Utah AARP Tax-Aide:

With over 100 volunteers, Utah AARP Tax-Aide
operated in 42 sites throughout the state.  During
the 2008 tax year we provided tax services to more
than 7,000 taxpayers, filing over 14,000 state and
federal tax returns.  Many of our volunteers are
themselves Senior Citizens who take pride in
serving their peers in this manner.  Our sites are
located in various libraries, senior and community
centers and are generally open one to two days per
week.  Each site is equipped with computers
increasing the accuracy of the return and enabling
us to file both state and federal returns
    electronically.

Our training is focused on the tax needs of low and
middle income taxpayers with special emphasis on
the unique needs of senior citizens however we
serve everyone in our community.  While we receive
support from the AARP Foundation, membership in
AARP is not a requirement, either to benefit from
our services or to participate as a volunteer.
